So many things make Great Falls High School one of the most unique and classic schools in Montana especially the bell tower that is placed on top. Back in the 1900s when Great Falls High was just beginning to make an impression, the bell tower was originally built on the school. However, due to birds getting caught inside and students trespassing; the bell tower has been covered with chicken wire to prevent such actions.
When the head engineer of Great Falls High School, Ray Lyons, came to this school in 1982, no bells were inside the bell tower. Since then speakers have been placed inside for the use of graduation, which were donated by the class of 1947. The four speakers that are now placed inside the bell tower came from the Saint Ann's Cathedral here in Great Falls on 3rd Avenue North. The picture below shows the four speakers as well as some graffiti.
However, the bell tower in this current time is rarely entered or used. As a joke, nearing the time of Halloween the engineers go into the bell tower and place a ghost and lights to emphasis the floating ghost inside.
Supposedly not only are these lights turned on to emphasis the ghost during Halloween, they are also on every night. The true mystery of the bell tower is how to even enter such a structure. Inside Great Falls High there are three enterances to get to the bell tower. However to prevent students from entering, every enterance is fully secured and locked tightly. Considering that Great Falls High School is one of the most classic structures in Great Falls, Montana few people come back to celebrate special occasions. One special occasion in particular happened last summer, a wedding which was held on the roof of the school. To prevent wear and tear on the school's however, the ceremony of the wedding was very small only containing the bride, groom, best man, maid of honor, and the minister. Not only is the bell tower itself outstanding the view of Great Falls is phenomenal.
